[9:4]  ¹ tn Grk “and he.” Because of the length of the Greek sentence, the conjunction καί (kai) has not been translated here. Instead a new English sentence is begun.

[9:4]  ² tn The double vocative suggests emotion.

[9:4]  ³ sn Persecuting me. To persecute the church is to persecute Jesus.

[18:9]  ⁴ sn Frequently in Acts such a vision will tell the reader where events are headed. See Acts 10:9-16 and 16:9-10 for other accounts of visions.

[18:9]  ⁵ tn BDAG 682 s.v. νύξ 1.c has “W. prep. ἐν ν. at night, in the night…Ac 18:9.”

[18:9]  ⁶ tn The present imperative here (with negation) is used (as it normally is) of a general condition (BDF §335).

[23:11]  ⁷ sn The presence of the Lord indicated the vindicating presence and direction of God.

[23:11]  ⁸ tn Grk “standing near Paul, said.” The participle ἐπιστάς (epistas) has been translated as a finite verb due to requirements of contemporary English style.
